Abstract:
The hierarchical representation of open and closed surfaces through the spectral-based analysis is gaining significant momentum in the mechanical community. The potential applications range from multiresolution remeshing and particle reconstruction to microstructure generation, studying the fractal roughness of self-affine surfaces, contact mechanics, and the morphology of thin plates and shells. In this talk, I will discuss recent advances in the analysis and reconstruction of genus-0 open and closed surfaces. This will be followed by a brief introduction to my current work on using these spectral methods for shape-shifting plates and shells
